Use the Transfer Bonus Calculator

Total airline or hotel points required for your booking.
Optional. Enter 0 if you have no existing balance.
Source points : airline or hotel points. For example, 1 : 2 means 1,000 source points become 2,000 partner points before a bonus. Find transfer partners and ratios .
Enter 30 for a 30% bonus. Use the standard ratio above, without the bonus already included.
Check your provider's increment. The calculator starts at 1,000 as an example, not a rule for every program.
Check the minimum separately. Enter 0 if no minimum applies. This model uses multiples of the increment from zero.

Before you transfer

  • Check award availability and the final points price for everyone traveling.
  • Confirm taxes, surcharges and other cash costs, then compare the award with a suitable cash booking.
  • Verify your card's transfer ratio, minimum, increment and any transfer fee.
  • Read the bonus terms, including eligibility, registration, limits, deadline and when the bonus posts.
  • Check how long the transfer may take. A delayed bonus may not be available for an immediate booking.
  • Check cancellation rules. Points transfers are generally irreversible. If you cancel an award booking, refunded points usually stay with the airline or hotel program rather than returning to your issuing bank.

A simple transfer bonus example

You need 70,000 airline miles and already have 5,000. With a standard 1:1 ratio and a 30% bonus, you need another 65,000 miles. Transferring 50,000 source points gives you 50,000 base miles plus 15,000 bonus miles, bringing your total to 70,000.

Illustration only, not a current offer. The result assumes a flat bonus on the base transfer and that all bonus miles become available. Tiered, capped or fixed bonuses require separate calculations.

How we look at redemption value

We use fee-adjusted cents per point (CPP) to account for the cash you still have to pay with an award booking. We compare a suitable total cash price with the award's required cash charges, then divide the difference by the points used.

Fee-adjusted CPP = (comparable cash price − award cash charges) ÷ points redeemed × 100.

Compare similar flights or rooms, with relevant taxes, baggage, cancellation terms and hotel fees treated consistently. Value is one measurement alongside convenience, comfort and the trip you actually want. This calculator handles transfer quantities; it does not calculate CPP. Keep source points transferred separate from partner points redeemed when measuring value.

Transfer bonus questions

How does a transfer bonus work?

A transfer bonus adds points or miles to a qualifying transfer. With a 1:1 standard ratio and a 30% bonus, 10,000 source points produce 10,000 base partner points plus 3,000 bonus points. Offers can come from the source program or the receiving loyalty program. Always check that offer's terms.

Can I use the calculator without a bonus?

Yes. Enter 0 in the bonus field. The calculator will use your standard ratio, existing balance, transfer increment and minimum to calculate the transfer.

How do I enter a ratio other than 1:1?

Enter source points on the left and partner points on the right. For 1:2, enter 1 and 2. For 5:4, enter 5 and 4. Use the standard ratio before the promotional bonus so the bonus is not counted twice. Your card type can affect the ratio; verify it in your own account.

Why does the calculator round up?

You may only be able to transfer in set increments. If the calculation calls for 50,001 source points and the increment is 1,000, the result rounds up to 51,000. It also accounts for the minimum you entered. Any extra partner points appear in the result as points above your award target.

Do bonus points arrive with the transfer?

That depends on the offer. The base transfer and bonus may post at different times, particularly when the receiving program awards the bonus separately. Our result shows the estimated total after the full bonus posts. Check timing before relying on bonus points for a booking.

Can I reverse a points transfer?

Points transfers are generally irreversible. Canceling an award booking usually returns eligible points to the airline or hotel program, not to your issuing bank. Cancellation fees and refund rules vary, so check both the transfer terms and the award's cancellation policy before proceeding.

Should I transfer just because there's a bonus?

A bonus can reduce the source points needed for an award, but it is not a reason on its own to transfer. Check availability, fees and the itinerary first. Keeping points in a flexible program may give you more options if your plans change. A high CPP does not make up for a trip that costs you too much time or adds inconvenient connections.

Should I transfer points before I have a booking in mind?

Be cautious about transferring points just to capture a bonus. Have a realistic plan to use them, preferably within the next year or two and before the program's expiration deadline. Once transferred, you lose flexibility, and award prices or availability may change.

Many programs reset the expiration clock when you earn or redeem points through qualifying activity. Depending on the program, that could include a flight, hotel stay, eligible shopping purchase, buying miles or another points transfer. Check the specific rules before relying on an activity to extend your balance. Some programs have fixed expiration dates that ordinary activity does not extend. A gift card purchase or redemption only helps if the program counts it as qualifying activity.

Does the calculator include current offers or special bonus tiers?

No. You enter the ratio and bonus from the offer you are considering. It models one flat percentage bonus with no cap. It does not apply targeted eligibility, tiered rates, fixed extra bonuses, transfer fees or program-specific rounding rules. For those offers, check the provider's transfer preview and terms.

Planning estimates only. Confirm availability, ratios, transfer rules, bonus eligibility and posting times with the relevant programs before transferring. Programs may round base and bonus points differently. This tool does not move points or access your accounts.
