Decades of Travel, Points & Family Memories
Astute Travel Advisors was built from decades of real-world travel experience, family memories, and a lifelong passion for making meaningful travel more attainable through points and miles.

The Beginning of the Journey
My points and miles journey began in 1984 with American Airlines during the early years of my career in telecommunications sales.
Over the next several decades, I spent countless hours in airports, hotels, rental cars, and conference rooms while building sales teams and supporting customers across North America.
Along the way, I eventually flew more than 1.5 million miles with American Airlines and achieved Lifetime Gold status — all through business travel within North America, long before I ever traveled internationally for leisure.
I also earned top-tier status multiple times with United Airlines and Northwest Airlines, as well as elite hotel status with Sheraton, Hilton, Marriott, and IHG through years of personal stays and company meetings.
Turning Business Travel Into Family Memories
At first, points and miles simply felt like a perk of life on the road. Over time, however, they became something far more meaningful: a way to create unforgettable family experiences.
Using points, miles, hotel stays, and travel benefits accumulated over years of business travel, our family was able to enjoy vacations to Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, the Bahamas, Orlando, Key West, and many other destinations.
Years later, points even helped us send two of our sons on first-class honeymoons to Hawaii.
As many road warriors understand, business travel often comes with tradeoffs — missed family time, nights away from home, and long stretches on the road.
For our family, points and miles eventually became a way to turn some of those sacrifices into meaningful time together.

A New Chapter
In 2006, our lives changed dramatically when my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Travel slowed considerably as our priorities shifted toward health, family, and simply getting through difficult years together.
In 2019, we finally took a long-awaited trip to Europe using points and miles I had accumulated over the years with American Airlines, United Airlines, Hilton, and Sheraton.
That trip reignited my passion for travel and opened my eyes to how much the world of points and miles had evolved.
Our first major return to Europe included the Amalfi Coast, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, and Rome — experiences that reminded us how meaningful travel could be when it slows you down enough to truly appreciate the world around you.
Since then, points and miles have helped us explore Madrid, Barcelona, London, Bruges, Paris, Amsterdam, Switzerland, and more — often flying business class and enjoying free hotel nights through strategic use of airline miles, hotel programs, transfer partners, and credit card rewards.
More Than Just Vacations
Points and travel have also helped me reconnect with hobbies and friendships that matter outside of work.
Over the years, I have enjoyed fishing experiences ranging from the Pacific Ocean to the saltwater flats of the Bahamas and the Florida Keys, from salmon fishing on Lake Michigan to the remote beauty of northern Minnesota and Voyageurs National Park.
Those experiences reinforced something important: travel is not just about luxury or checking destinations off a list.
It is about spending quality time with the people you care about, reconnecting with old friends, enjoying nature, and creating memories that stay with you long after the trip ends.
